LICT Highlights

The LEUVEN Center on Information and Communication Technology (LICT)

Scientific structure of the center : the research lines

The LICT Center is based on a creative and interdisciplinary combination of electronic engineers, computer scientists/engineers, architects and people from the social sciences and law, who all conduct research in ICT at KU Leuven or its association partners. The researchers are involved in a variety of projects ranging from basic to applied sciences across many different research groups at the KU Leuven, and the Center will further stimulate the cross-cooperation. The Center will also stimulate cooperation with other Flemish research centers like IMEC and iMinds, as well as with the industry.

Considering the large span of research subjects covered by the ICT field, the LICT Center is organized in 7 thematic research lines. These correspond to the core focus areas of the Center and each consist of researchers from different groups that combine their experience and expertise. In addition, the Center will stimulate cross-disciplinary cooperative research between the different research lines, where appropriate. This will allow resolving outstanding problems with fresh out-of-the-box multi-disciplinary thinking.

The 7 strategic research lines in the LICT Center are :

  1. Wireless Communication Systems (PI: Dominique Schreurs)
  2. Mixed-Signal Interface Systems (PI: Georges Gielen)
  3. Embedded Systems and Software (PI : Yolande Berbers/Wim Dehaene)
  4. Distributed Software (PI: Wouter Joosen)
  5. ICT Security (PI: Bart Preneel/Wouter Joosen)
  6. Human-Machine Interaction (PI : Erik Duval/Dirk de Grooff)
  7. Knowledge Technologies (PI: Luc De Raedt)
