COSIC seminar – The Pseudonym Broker privacy pattern in medical data collection – Christiaan Hillen (Radboud University Nijmegen)

13/07/2015 @ 14:30 - 15:30 CEST

Christiaan will be presenting a privacy pattern for the collection of personal data from various sources and how to combine these into a single database, whilst protecting the privacy of the data subjects involved by using pseudonyms that prevent the joining of data. Pseudonyms are generated using the data subject’s identity, the identity of the data source, and the time frame over which the data are collected. The pseudonyms are reversible by a trusted third party, thus still allowing queries over the collected data, but only with the knowledge and assistance of this party. This pattern has been developed for and implemented in a Dutch healthcare innovation project called “ParkinsonNext”.

Bio: Christiaan is a PhD researcher at the Digital Security department of the Radboud University in Nijmegen. His work is centered around privacy and security by design in a medical context. His background is diverse, starting out with a bachelor of health, and continuing with a bachelor and master in information sciences. In his master’s thesis he examined the legal compliance of home energy management systemd, thus also gaining knowledge on Dutch and European data protection legislation. In his personal life Christiaan enjoys rock climbing, swimming, playing guitar and training in various martial arts.
