Master thesis

Master of Engineering: Electrical Engineering

Master of Engineering: Electrical Engineering

A master thesis gives a student the opportunity to attack a specific problem and gain more in-depth knowledge. This problem is large and interesting enough to justify an effort of 24 study points. Larger problems can constitute a master thesis for a group of two students.

The thesis promotor is responsible for the general coordination. The counsellor (usually an assistant of the research group of the promotor) supervises the work day in day out. He/she is available for help with theoretical as well as practical problems.

The thesis text is the most tangible outcome of the master thesis, apart from implementations and research results. The text consists of two parts. The traditional thesis text is an extensive technical report which describes the work done. Additionally an article must be written which synthesizes the work for a scientific audience.

A master thesis, step by step

At the beginning of the second semester, promotors submit thesis proposals. These proposals are made public around Eastern. First year master students can choose a subject from these proposals.

The student makes his/her thesis during the second master year. This includes planning and carrying out the project as well as writing the texts. The work is completed by some presentations. The master secretary prepares the presentation schedule.
