Ultra-lightweight encryption method becomes international standard

An increasing number of every-day devices such as car keys, smart phones
and even medical implants need security. The problem with all previously
known encryption methods is that they are difficult to use on small
devices that are cost and energy constrained. To solve this challenging
problem, an international team of researchers from Orange Labs (France),
Ruhr University Bochum (Germany) and the Technical University of Denmark
designed a new efficient encryption algorithm. The cipher, known as
PRESENT, is one of today's smallest encryption methods and it has been
studied widely by the international scientific community. PRESENT uses a
fraction of the resources of the AES, the most widely used encryption
method on the Internet, and ISO/IEC will include PRESENT in a new
world-wide standard that supports lightweight cryptography. In turn,
such a standard will help support developers who might wish to use the
cipher in future consumer and industrial products.

This year we like you to meet Prof. Paul Leroux, Prof. Jan Aerts and Prof. Dirk Van Hertem.

They will give you an overview of their academic careers and of their current and future research topics. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the state-of-the-art research that is currently happening at our department.

Participation is free of charge, but you are asked to register here.
