Toon Goedemé was born in Merksem, Belgium (1979). After high school he went to the KU Leuven (Belgium) to study Master of Technical Engineering. In 2002, he graduated as M.Sc. in Electrotechnical Engineering (option: multimedia and signal processing). His thesis project, building a camera-guided electric wheel chair, was continued in a doctoral research project. In December 2006 he obtained his Ph.D. "Visual navigation" at the PSI-VISICS research group of K. U. Leuven under supervision of prof. Luc Van Gool.
Toon started teaching at De Nayer technical university in 2006, where he set up a research group named EAVISE (Embedded and Applied Vision Engineering). At the moment, he is supervising five researchers in the field of real-time applications of computer vision. In 2010, he became associated professor at PSI-VISICS.
