PSI's EU-project V-City selected for Innovation Convention in Brussels

The EU project V-City has been selected, as 1 of only 50 European projects, to be shown at the Innovation Convention in Brussels. ESAT's image processing group PSI-VISICS is one of the partners in this consortium, aiming to build and visualize a virtual 3D city. The President of the European Commision, Jose Barroso will open the event.

ERC Advanced grants @ ESAT positive evaluation for J. Suykens and L. Van Gool

Last week the 30st KU Leuven researcher has been selected for an ERC grant. At ESAT there are currently 5 awardees or 17% of the university's total awardees. Today professor dr. ir. Johan Suykens and professor dr. ir. Luc Van Gool have been awarded an ERC Advanced grant 2011 (for well-established and recognised scientists).

KU Leuven-KHlim - iGEM moves up to Boston MIT and won GOLD at the Regional European Jamboree (BioSCENTer-ESAT/SCD/SISTA)

"We believe that synthetic biology will be the multi trillion dollar industry over the next 50 yrs. And that the people in this room will be the leaders of this industry..." Best Paper award for Carmela Troncoso (ESAT/SCD/COSIC) at the IEEE International workshop on Information Forensics and Security 2011

The paper "Fingerprinting Tor's Hidden Service Log Files Using a Timing Channel." co-authored by Juan A. Elices (University of New Mexico), Fernando Perez-Gonzalez (University of Vigo) and Carmela Troncoso (ESAT/SCD/COSIC) has won the Student Best Paper Gold Award at the IEEE International Workshop on Information Forensics and Security (WIFS11), a top research conference on multimedia forensics and security.
