DocArch is headed by Prof. Joos Vandewalle and Prof. Jan Engelen.
"Document Architectures" is the generic name for the field of data and knowledge management as seen from different perspectives :
- the study of premises leading to international standards in the XML (Extensible Markup Language) domain including XHTML, XSLT, MathML, the multimedia standards HyTime and SMIL as well as e-commerce developments such as ebXML [Electronic Business XML] and eBooks ;
- sophisticated document transformations, including those from unstructured into structured formats ;
- the building of superstructures above large collections of diverse types of electronic documents and the navigation through these collections (Topic Maps concept) ;
- the production, use and handling of metadata enriched documents so that later data retrieval can be handled in a more sophisticated way and
- different application domains :
- newspaper news item/articles
- documents structured to the benefit of reading impaired users
- legal texts

Op 2 oktober vond de eerstesteenlegging plaats voor het nieuwe gebouw van het Departement Elektrotechniek (ESAT) in het Kasteelpark Arenberg in Heverlee.

Derde editie van het internationaal wiskundetoernooi (met medewerking van ESAT-SCD) (21 sept 2012)

Op vrijdag 21 september 2012 organiseren we aan de KULeuven de derde editie van het internationaal wiskundetoernooi, in samenwerking met de universiteiten van Keulen en Nijmegen en met de steun van het Arne Loosveldt Fonds en LMS International. Het toernooi duurt de ganse dag (10-17u) en richt zich op de leerlingen uit het vijfde en zesde jaar middelbaar onderwijs. De wedstrijd wordt gelijktijdig gehouden op de drie locaties Keulen-Leuven-Nijmegen.
Inschrijven via inschrijvingsformulier op de website kan tot en met 30 juni.
