Curriculum vitae

Christiaan Moons was born in Lier, Belgium, in 1966. He received his degree of M.Sc. in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in 1990 from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. The title of his Master Thesis was "Deveopment of a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for the U.Z. Gasthuisberg, Part II: communication." Currently, he is a research assistant at the ESAT-SISTA laboratories of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He is working towards a Ph.D. degree on the subject of On-line parameter estimation of induction machines.

Main research interests

Current activities

Christiaan Moons is currently a Ph.D. student at the ESAT-SISTA group. His research promotors are Prof. Joos Vandewalle and Prof. Bart De Moor. His research deals with on-line identification of induction motor drives. The goal of this research is to track the physical parameters of an induction motor. This is needed to tune the vector controllers while they are up and running. The idea is to first filter the voltage and current signals of the motor, then applying non-linear transformation to these filtered signals, and finally find the parameters of the differential equations qhich describes the behavior of the motor.
